To get the diversity training started, Mr. Brown chose to discuss an incident that many employees had complained about: an employee's "performance" of a Chris Rock routine. To demonstrate, Michael gave the group a little sample of his unique comedic brilliance.
At the end of the session, Mr. Brown asked everyone to sign a form saying that they learned something. When Michael refused to sign, Mr. Brown pulled him aside to remind him that he was actually the only one required to sign the form. Mr. Brown had only made copies for everyone so Michael wouldn't be embarrassed.
With Mr. Brown gone, Michael conducted his own diversity training. Michael had everyone take a card and put it on his or her forehead without looking at it. A different race was listed on each card and everyone had to guess what was on his or her head by the way that other staff members treated them.
Dwight, wearing "Asian," came up to Pam, who was wearing "Jewish," and asked her for a loan. Dwight had a hard time guessing what was on his head until Pam goaded him by saying, "You would maybe not be a very good driver." "Oh, man," Dwight shouted, "Am I a woman?"
Kelly, who is of Indian descent, returned to the session after a customer meeting. Though she wasn't wearing a card, Michael launched into a racist Indian accent, posing as a convenience store clerk. She reacted in the only way possible by slapping him.
Jim was happy to hear from his customer that they still had a deal with Dunder-Mifflin, but was extremely unhappy to learn that Dwight closed the deal behind his back and won the hefty commission. That didn't phase Jim, because at the diversity session, Pam fell asleep on Jim's shoulder, which made his entire day.
